The Summer Theatre Experience

The VCT Summer Program, created by producer and director Matthew DeMeritt (VCS Associate Director of the Conservatory of the Arts) with the help of his production team, Tim Mendolia (Technical Director), Lauren Mayfield (Director/Choreographer) and Cathy McFall (Production Manager), gives young people the opportunity to experience the joys of creativity and personal growth in an encouraging Christian theatre environment. At VCT we focus on the balance between learning, fun, and fellowship! A typical day in the Summer Theatre Program consists of the following:

• We begin the day with a devotional and brief worship time, centering all our activities on the Lord!

• Next, we have a period of fun and educational theatre games and training, consisting of improvisation, vocal and physical warm-ups, and basic instruction in stage direction and movement, creating and strengthening the skills needed to perform with confidence and success on stage!

• The remainder of each morning is devoted to the rehearsal of our production. Rehearsals are approximately two and a half hours in length with a fifteen minute break period during which a healthy snack will be provided!

• We conclude each day with notes, encouragement and a closing prayer.

Summer Theatre is the perfect theatrical opportunity for performers of all ages and experience levels.  High level production values combine with a tight knit community to create an atmosphere where students grow, learn and create while making life-long friends and memories.

The Show: SUESSICAL

The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many "thinks." Horton faces a double challenge--not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping, and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.
